Shows promise but doesn't fully utilise the features of hardware
Ideally PlayIt Live would support GPI closures from mixer buttons but that isn't a current feature. On modern PCs the "game port" tends to be implemented by a USB device (if at all) so getting GPIs into the PC would require some fabrication. This Plugin allows the use of MIDI hardware to trigger various functions of the software. I tried it with the Akai LPD8 MIDI pad controller. The Akai LPD8 has 8 big buttons, 8 knobs and 3 (or perhaps 4) smaller buttons. For me, mapping the 8 large buttons to the main player functions was the attraction. That works well but actually I could manage with a smaller 4 button panel (should such a thing exist) for that purpose. The 8 knobs and the smaller buttons don't have any obvious application at present although in a "mixerless" application one could imagine a future application for the knobs if PlayIt Live were enhanced to support them. As a more general observation, many of these MIDI devices are more "DJ" in styling and application and future development to make use of the (semi standard) set of buttons that Serato uses might be a good way forward.
